Fashion
show with Cultural Center of Chicago - One Exotic Evening |
|
|
|
|
|
Vermilion
and The Chicago Office of Tourism hosted One Exotic
Evening – an exclusive pairing of food and high
fashion. This event was presented in collaboration with
renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Chicago
project, a yearlong celebration that explores the artistic
traditions and cross-cultural connections that unite
in Chicago. Guests enjoyed fashion and the exotic Indian-Latin
flavors at Vermilion, including tapas and herb and spice
cocktails. A fashion show showcasing the creations of
leading Chicago designers (including the Indian fashions
of Payal Sinha, jewelry by Cheena Chandra, handbags
by Brazilian designer Diego Rochas) took place throughout
the event.

Suketu
Mehta book launch at Vermilion
(Pullitzer finalist author) |
|
|
|
|
|
Vermilion
was delighted to introduce accomplished author Suketu
Mehta to Chicago and host his book launch, in collaboration
with Mayor Daley’s CSCIP, Delhi Committee.
Raised in Bombay and based in New York, Mehta’s
work has been published in the New York Times Magazine,
Wall Street Journal, Granta, Time, and Harper’s
Magazine, among others. MAXIMUM CITY offers an intimate
look at what many consider the city of the future, Bombay:
an alluringly chaotic place that’s bursting at
the seams and at the crazy mix of contradictions and
possibilities that draws millions to Bombay. It has
received praise from writers such as Jhumpa Lahiri,
Amitav Ghosh, and Salman Rushdie, who says "It's
the best book written about that great, ruined metropolis...
and it deserves to be very widely read." for more

Bollywood
and Bombay foods: Take 1 through 6, Bollywood festival
at Vermilion |
|
|
|
|
|
 |
|
It’s
in the New York Times Sunday Magazine, it’s
a National Geographic special report, it’s
on Broadway, it’s running in mainstream
American theater, it’s on Letterman and
the Oprah Show! Bollywood, or the Indian equivocal
for Hollywood |
(the
Bombay film industry), is creeping into multiple facets
of American culture, filtering into everyday vocabulary,
transcending global appeal.
Melodramatic,
full of song, fantasy ridden, heavily emotional
and heroic, Bollywood movies are a vivid celebration
of life. Many say food and flavors are ones last
tie to a home culture, Indians may argue Bollywood
movies form our lasting link to our country. |
